Hi SUFP!
I am a former employee of a local shelter in west Michigan (I had to quit this past June to continue school as a vet tech). In Nov of 2014 I fell in love with a new intake who I named Moose. He didn’t know any commands, so I taught him sit, shake, high five, lay down, how to take treats nicely and how to walk properly on a leash. His life was at risk several times and I spent days emailing no kill rescues all over Michigan and even outside of Michigan, trying to find anywhere that would help me save him. I finally got a yes. I cried so hard the morning I got the message. My best friend and co-worker drove Moose and 5 other dogs 12+ hours to Ironwood, Michigan in the middle of winter. The drive was the longest, stinkiest drive of my life, but Moose was finally safe. He was enrolled in a prison training program up north where he continued to learn and taught the inmates responsibility. His luck eventually ran out in the UP and we had a change of management at the shelter, so we made the drive back up, and brought Moose back home. Over the next year (2015) Moose was adopted in June and returned at the end of the month. By September my heart was broken. I didn’t know what to do anymore. I knew it wasn’t fair to keep making him live in a kennel, he had been doing it for so long. I made one last post to try and get him out there. And it worked. Moose was adopted in October of 2015. It was great. But, as many shelter workers know, it is hard to be truly happy and to let your guard down around your heart, knowing that at any minute he could be returned. The months passed and I got happy pictures and great updates. Then out of the blue in August of 2016 he was returned. Moose had done nothing wrong. He (and I) were devastated. We have a very strong bond, he cried and licked me, and hugged me tight when he saw me. I can’t bring him home because I have two dogs, a cat, and a foster kitten. Moose gets along with most female dogs out in the play yard, but would rather have a home to himself, so no cats or dogs. I’ve again tried emailing rescues, trying to find him somewhere to go, but nothing. Moose and I would be forever in your debt if there were any way for you to help us spread the word about him. He deserves nothing but the best and quite honestly I am at the point of giving up. I don’t know what to do anymore…I can’t keep letting him waste away in a kennel.

Moose is 3 and 1/2 years old, already neutered, microchipped, up to date on his vaccines, is good with kids, is well trained with basic commands, takes treat gently, is potty trained, absolutely loves car rides, and does well in the bath. A fenced in yard is best.
