“The killer(s) kept tearing down the 10K reward signs that Stubby’s Heroes’ volunteers kept hanging up on the bridge on Kelly Lake Road in Decatur, GA where the #kellylakedogkiller hung a young, 35lb pit bull over the bridge late May 2015. Weekly we replaced flyers so we decided to wallpaper the bridge with stuffed animals. The media came. Interviews followed with Fox Five Atlanta and WSB-TV and the residents started to talk. They told the media that they have seen the same man walking this dog, that they have seen tearing down the flyers. They said that they have seen this dog around the neighborhood, but they don’t want any problems. Calls have been made to both the Dekalb County Police Department and the Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta numbers, but no concrete leads yet.
Stubby’s Heroes’ volunteers will be in the neighborhood again this weekend speaking to the residents, and inviting them to a march that is in the works, hopefully scheduled for late August, three months after the dog was found. We’ll need a permit for that, so we’re hoping that it’s granted. We are also going to invite the residents to come out and join us as we launch yet another campaign, Beautify Her Bridge. Advocates will be donating shrubbery, plants, rose bushes, and flowers for us to plant alongside the Kelly Lake Road Bridge in remembrance. Currently, the area around her bridge can use a good cleaning – there are diapers and garbage strewn about. Hopefully, by continuing to show the community and the residents that we care about this, they will become our partners and the #kellylakedogkiller will be caught. There is no date set for either the march and the beautification event, but look to Stubby’s Heroes for details.-Stubby’s Heroes
