We have been asked to share another march happening May 30th in Dallas TX in an effort to stand up against BSL and we are more than happy to do so. We are so happy to see how many rescues and groups are going beyond front line efforts and making their voices heard and organizing rallies and marches! We encourage you to attend if you’re able and if not please consider sharing to show your support. ‪#‎standupforpits‬‪#‎betheievoice‬

“My name is Savannah Howell and I am a resident of the city of Dallas. Recently as you may have heard, there has been somewhat of a BSL threat to our city by Dallas Council Member Dwaine Caraway and Councilman Rick Callahan who made anti-pitbull and pro-BSL statements as found in this news story: http://dfw.cbslocal.com/…/new-usps-dog-attack-list-rekindl…/. It is also interesting to note that in 2011, Dwaine Caraway presented Michael Vick a key to the city of Dallas for being a “hero and a great example for children.” Yes, you read that right.

While Texas has a law preventing cities and municipalities from enacting a BSL and therefore rendering any new ban such as the one currently being discussed to be futile, the fact is the language used and the statements they made on a public level only further perpetuate the false stereotype surrounding pitbulls and pitbull type dogs and devastatingly set back any positive work that has been accomplished by advocates and responsible pitbull owners.

There is a petition circulating which is collecting signatures essentially just to display how many people disapprove of the city’s discrimination and poorly thought-out “solution” to our stray dog problem. However, and most importantly, there will be a march on Dallas City Hall on May 30th. The mission of this march is to show that responsible pitbull owners are the MAJORITY and we will not stand for this discrimination, nor do we support the archaic and deeply disturbing statements made by our city officials.

I was wondering if STFP’s could share the petition and/or the link to this march? The more people that are aware, the more will attend this march and we can hopefully make our voices heard. If you cannot, it is 100% understood and I appreciate your time!
